E-Bulletin: Transforming Adult Education through TCSG's Accelerating Opportunity
The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) received a $1.250,000 grant to implement Accelerating Opportunity, a pilot program designed to transform Georgia adult education into career pathways leading to economic security for workers in today's demanding job market. It provides students returning to school to obtain their GED at one of Georgia's technical colleges the opportunity to earn postsecondary credentials in high-demand occupations through dual enrollment.
The program began at Middle Georgia Technical College in 2012, and TCSG plans to expand it to seven more campuses by spring 2014. Already, the program has awarded more than 50 GEDs and 70 certificates to students. Childcare Center Ratings released July 1st
The Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) released its voluntary Quality Rated system. Participating daycare centers, preschools, and other programs earn a one- to three-star rating based upon program quality standards. To access the ratings, click here.
New NAEP Trends in Academic Growth 2012 Report released
The report shows gains in long-term trend mathematics and reading assessments nationwide for 9- and 13year-olds since the early 1970s. Scores for 17-yearolds did not increase over that time. Since the last administration in 2008, only 13-year-olds increased scores mathematics and reading scores. NAEP longterm trend assessments are given every four years to a nationwide random sample of more than 50,000 public and private school students. Click here to access the report.
