December 2013 Monthly Update
Gov. Deal Releases Digital Learning Task Force Recommendations
Gov. Nathan Deal released the final report of recommendations from his Digital Learning Task Force. Formed by Executive Order in April 2012, the task force developed a cohesive strategy to improve student achievement through digital learning implementation across the state.
The recommendations include:
Increasing broadband access to all Georgia schools; Encouraging the transition from textbooks to digital content; Aligning all course options to ensure that students and parents have clear information about what course choices are available to them; Funding pilot blended learning projects through the Innovation Fund, which is housed at GOSA; and Creating a funding mechanism and assessment system that provides the flexibility required for students to progress through courses when they master standards, rather than all at the same pace.

GOSA Releases 2012-13 Report Card
The 2012-13 Report Card is now available on GOSA's website. It provides data on every public school in Georgia. The following sections of the Report Card are now available:
Pre-Kindergarten K-12 Accountability K-12 Georgia Tests K-12 National Tests K-12 Indicators and Demographics K-12 Personnel & Fiscal
Information on the University System and the Technical College System will be available at a later date.

December E-Bulletin: Student Mobility in Georgia
Each school year, thousands of Georgia students transfer schools for reasons other than grade promotion. This month's e-bulletin assesses mobility patterns in Georgia public schools. During the 2012-13 academic year, 10.3% of Georgia students were mobile. A majority of mobile students transfer to another public school within Georgia. Mobile students are more likely to be qualified for Free and Reduced-Price Lunch, students with disabilities, and English Language Learners.

2013 Graduation Rates Released
On December 11, 2013, the Georgia Department of Education released the 2013 graduation rates for all public schools and school districts in the state. The 2013 statewide graduation rate was 71.5%, an increase of 1.8 percentage points over the 2012 rate.

CCGPS Educator Survey
To learn about teachers' experience implementing the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS), GOSA partnered with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to administer a survey to a random sample of teachers across the state. The survey asked teachers about access to CCGPS-aligned professional development and resources, the utility of these resources, and the use of CCGPS-related practices in the classroom.
On December 18, 2013, GOSA released a report on the findings of this survey.
