New Opportunity Available for Georgia's Artists
Publication Created to Exclusively Promote Traditional Art Forms
Atlanta - For countless generations, Georgia's traditional artists have given the state a rich, cultural heritage that has enhanced our history and enriched our lives. Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) has supported this legacy for more than forty years. Now the agency continues its support of these gifted artists by creating a new publication - the Traditional Artists Roster.
Georgia Council for the Arts will accept applications now through March 3 for inclusion in the FY2009 Traditional Artists Roster. This new publication will be an adjudicated listing of qualified Georgia traditional artists whose art forms are grounded in history and tied to a specific culture that is resident in Georgia. The art forms produced by these artists are traditional expressions of a culture maintained and communicated between groups of people who share a common thread. Examples include, but are not limited to, hand-quilting, weaving and storytelling. Groups performing certain forms of music, such as bluegrass and ballad singing, will also be included in the publication.
The Traditional Artists Roster's purpose is to increase visibility and booking opportunities for members of Georgia's traditional art community. GCA will promote and market the Roster publication and provide grant support for eligible organizations to hire GCA-certified traditional artists. Individual Georgia artists and/or artist groups in all traditional arts disciplines are eligible to apply.
"It is my goal to include every traditional artist in Georgia in the Roster," says Traditional Arts Program Manager Brandy Klopp. "I am committed to making the state's diverse culture and rich history visible and accessible to all of its residents." Due to her first-hand knowledge and multiple years of experience, Klopp is well-versed in the expectations of arts patrons who support traditional art forms. "What supporters of the arts
