Georgia Council for the Arts Announces New Grants Director
ATLANTA Georgia Council for the Arts Executive Director, Susan Weiner, announced today that Sharon Blake has joined the staff as Grants Director. "This is a key position for GCA," Weiner noted. "A number of well-qualified individuals applied but Sharon's background and experience exceeded the other candidates."
Ms. Blake has more than nine years of targeted experience in nonprofit arts and grants administration. Prior to joining the staff at Georgia Council for the Arts, she was Director of Affiliate Services for VSA arts, an international nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC. At VSA arts, she oversaw services for the organization's network of state affiliates which included managing a $3.6 million annual affiliation and funding budget. Her professional background also includes managing performing arts and audience development grant programs at the Association of Performing Arts Presenters as well as coordinating multiple peer review panels for grant competitions in the AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve America programs for the Corporation for National and Community Service.

learn more about the many facets of the arts in the state of Georgia. "Georgia has a lot to offer throughout its various arts communities that are rich in culture and history. I am pleased to be a part of the process that assists with funding and support for so many." Her responsibilities at GCA include implementing policy and procedure for grant system oversight, reviewing and approving all agency contracts, as well as reviewing and analyzing applicant and grantee compliance.
The Georgia Council for the Arts is a state agency that provides support for nonprofit arts and cultural organizations throughout the state. Established in 1965 as the Georgia Commission on the Arts, the Georgia Council for the Arts mission is to encourage excellence in the arts, support the arts many forms of expression and make the arts available to all Georgians by providing funding, leadership, programming and other services. Funding for the Georgia Council for the Arts is provided by the Georgia General Assembly, the National Endowment for the Arts and other private and public sources.
