new Cultural Facilities Grant. Seventy-nine entities in 58 counties received more than $570,000 in funding.

"The Vibrant Communities Grant, along with our new Cultural Facilities Grant, have allowed GCA to support some of the most impactful arts programming happening in communities of all sizes throughout the state," said Karen Paty, Executive Director for Georgia Council for the Arts. "These grants inves t not only in the cultural infrastructure, buildings, classrooms, theatres, and museums, that support the creation of great programs, but also the downtowns, libraries, community centers, and schools that invite Georgians to connect with one another and with meaningful arts experiences in their everyday lives ."

GCA received 133 applications from arts organizations, schools, libraries, cities, historical societies, com m unity theatres , Boys & Girls Clubs, and more. Vibrant Communities Grants were available to organizations in counties that did not receive a FY20 Project, Partner, or Arts Education grant. Cultural Facilities was a new grant opportunity this year which provides funding for the renovation,

Following the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) precedent, the Georgia Council for the Arts used Peer Review Panels to adjudicate applications. These panels included fellow professionals who are experienced in the arts discipline or type of grant being reviewed; or are Georgia citizens with a record of involvement in arts activities, experience, and knowledge.

Georgia Poet Laureate's Prize Call for Entries
Georgia Poet Laureate Chelsea Rathburn, in collaboration with Georgia Council for the Arts, is pleased to announce the seventh annual Poet Laureate's Prize, awarded for an original poem written by a Georgia high s chool s tudent. A winner and four finalis ts will be s elected by the Poet Laureate and announced in the spring of 2020. The winning poet and finalists will have the opportunity to m eet Governor Kem p and the Poet Laureate when they are honored at the Georgia State Capitol in the spring. The winner and finalists will also tour the historic Margaret Mitchell House in Atlanta. The winning and finalist poems will be published by Atlanta Magazine at atlantamagazine.com.

Only one poem per s tudent will be accepted. Only original work will be considered and cannot contain previous ly publis hed and/or copyrighted material in any part by any 3rd party. GCA, in partnership with the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), is proud to share a s eries of indus try im pact reports collectively titled "Leveraging Public Investment in the Arts." The case studies illuminate the positive impact of the arts as an economic development tool in Georgia's communities. Community projects that are featured in the report were selected based on population, geography, demographics, resources, and specific s trategies employed by each city. Through these case studies, GCA and GMA are able to dem ons trate the importance of the utility of the arts as a method to promote tourism, downtown development, business development, entrepreneuris m , com m unity identity, and quality of life throughout Georgia. The newest case studies include Cuthbert, Statesboro, Zebulon, and a combined cas e s tudy on the artis t-built environments of Pasaquan and Paradise Garden, located in Buena Vista and Summerville, respectively.
Beginning this past winter with Elbert Mem orial Hos pital, GCA inaugurated a new initiative, entitled Creative Healing, hanging curated exhibits of Georgia's State Art Collection in rural hospitals. National Endowment for the Arts offers Grants for Arts Projects (form erly Art Works grants) to support artistically excellent projects that celebrate our creativity and cultural heritage, invite mutual respect for differing beliefs and values, and enrich humanity. Cost share/m atching grants generally range from $10,000 to $100,000. A minim um cost share/match equal to the grant amount is required. Through a competitive process, Georgia Humanities awards grants to such cultural, civic, and educational entities as museums, libraries, universities, and historical societies for a range of projects. The postmark deadline for spring applications is March 30, 2020.
RESEARCH
A recent article highlights recent research on the benefits of dance therapy for addressing depression, treating Parkinson's disease, and improving brain structure.
The Strategic National Arts Alumni Project (SNAAP) is a national arts data and research organization. Since 2008, SNAAP has collected and analyzed data from over 200,000 arts graduates from higher education institutions across North America. SNAAP data have helped change the national conversation on the value of an arts degree.
Edutopia recently featured an article about how arts integrated schools help students both improve academically and develop social-emotional skills. This school's particular approach embraces a model built around the Eight Studio Habits of Mind.
