BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION

BLOOD DONATION DAY

WHEREAS:

The State of Georgia is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in Georgia and visiting the state. Low blood supply is a public safety concern both in Georgia and across the country, as hospitals and medical centers need to sustain a healthy supply for surgeries, emergencies, and other life-threatening situations; and

WHEREAS :

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that there are more than 9.5 million blood donors in the United State and an estimated 5 million patients received blood each year; and

WHEREAS:

One pint of blood can ~;:t.ve the lives of as many as three patients and as many as 38% of Americans are eligible to give blood at any given time; and

WHEREAS:

Georgia is home to a number of committed public service organizations working to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, including the American Red Cross, American Blood Centers, and others; and

WHEREAS:

Blood Donation Day in Georgia effectively reminds the communities around the state of the importance of blood donation and builds awareness regarding the constant need for blood donations; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim September 10, 2016, as BLOOD DONATION DAY in Georgia.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 2nd day of September in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
