A PROCLAMATION

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

Domestic violence is a crime and is a major public concern for our nation and state; and
All individuals have a basic right to safety from harm by others. Domestic violence affects people of all ages, races, socioeconomic, educational, religious, and occupational segments of our society; and
The effects of domestic violence are devastating and can have long-term effects on victims because it violates their safety, security, and humanity. These effects are also seen in families, communities, schools, and workplaces; and
Georgia communities deserve to be safe and protected from domestic violence. The State of Georgia, in collaboration with local domestic violence programs and communities, come together to support victims and hold perpetrators accountable in ending domestic violence; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim October 2016 as DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH in Georgia and encourage all citizens of our state to make this the beginning of the end of domestic violence.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 19th day of September in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
