BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION
SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST WEEK
WHEREAS:
For more than 60 years, surgical technology has grown to meet the everincreasing demand for well-educated, highly-skilled, and versatile surgical technologists. Surgical technologists are entrusted with protecting the lives and the well-being of patients while providing a critical service during surgical procedures; and
WHEREAS:
More than 90,000 surgical technologists across the country play an important role on surgical teams that are committed to providing the highest quality of surgical care to patients. Surgical technologists are responsible for the application of sterile and aseptic techniques in the operating room, ensuring that equipment functions properly and facilitating safe and effective conduct during invasive surgical procedures ; and
WHEREAS :
Surgical technologists strive to prevent life-threatening surgical site infections and maximize patient safety; and
WHEREAS:
Certified Surgical Technologists graduate from an accredited program and receive certification conferred by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting based upon passage of the national examination ; and
WHEREAS:
The surgical technologist's motto, "Aeger Primo, the patient first," reflects total commitment to patient safety and advocacy; now
THEREFORE:
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim September 18-24, 2016, as SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST WEEK in Georgia and encourage all citizens to join in acknowledging the important role of surgical technologists in the care and recovery of their patients.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 2nd day of August in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen .
