A PROCLAMATION
ALCOHOL AND DRUG ADDICTION RECOVERY MONTH
WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE:
Addiction is a chronic, relapsing illness that involves a number of brain disorders . Addiction may affect Americans of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds and imposes enormous medical, societal, and economic costs; and
Treatment has been scientifically proven .to be the most effective intervention for dealing with addiction. Thousands of healthcare providers and other concerned individuals have dedicated their lives to prevention programs, recovery processes, and the education of policymakers and the public about the dangers of substance abuse; and
Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month raises awareness for people who are currently working to overcome addictions through treatment, in addition to their families, friends, supporters, and treatment providers; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim September 2016 as ALCOHOL AND DRUG ADDICITON RECOVERY MONTH in Georgia and encourage all citizens to support the individuals who are in recovery and to recognize the counseling and program staff who provide them with assistance and motivation along their journey.
