BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION

TUSKEGEE AIRMEN DAY

WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE:

The men and women who served during World War II dedicated their lives to guiding our nation through tumultuous times. The Tuskegee Airmen were African-American pioneers in military aviation who faced great challenges in fighting the Axis Powers overseas and helped to create change in the U.S.; and
The Atlanta Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. was established in August 1976 and its members have since made significant contributions to Georgia. The chapter's membership includes civilians and veterans who reside throughout the state; and
Many members of the Atlanta Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen served the U.S. in World War II and a number of the members have been certified as "Documented Original Tuskegee Airmen" during the 40-year history of the chapter; and
The State of Georgia is proud to express its appreciation to the Tuskegee Airmen, whose service and sacrifice helped to preserve the freedom we enjoy today, as well as members of the Atlanta Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, who continue to serve as role models in community involvement and the inspiration of youth; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim October 1 5, 2016, as TUSKEGEE AIRMEN DAY in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 17th day of August in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
