BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION
DIAPER NEED AWARENESS WEEK
WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE:
The citizens of Georgia recognize that economic opportunity for individuals can lead to improved health for their families and communities. Access to a reliable supply of clean diapers is a necessity for the health and welfare of infants, toddlers, and their families; and
The average infant or toddler requires 50 diaper changes per week over the span of three years. Diapers cannot be bought with food stamps or WIC vouchers, therefore, providing a sufficient supply of diapers can cause economic hardship to needy families; and
A supply of diapers is generally an eligibility requirement for young children to participate in childcare programs. When infants and toddlers cannot participate in childcare programs, parents have difficulty in fully participating in the workforce; and
Georgia is proud to be home to various community organizations that recognize the importance of diapers in helping provide economic stability for families and distribute these resources through various channels; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim September 26-0ctober 2, 2016, as DIAPER NEED AWARENESS WEEK in Georgia and encourage our citizens to donate to diaper banks, drives, and those organizations that distribute such resources to families in need.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 1Qth day of August in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
