BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION
CHARCOT-MARIE-TOOTH AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS:

Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) is a severe neuromuscular disorder that affects approximately one in 2,500 people worldwide; and

WHEREAS:

CMT may cause nerves in the extremities to die, muscle atrophy, ataxia, chronic pain, overwhelming fatigue, and loss of sensation; and

WHEREAS:

Increased awareness of CMT will help to promote research focused on early detection for those afflicted, and encourage people to seek medical assistance before deformities and nerve damage occurs; and

WHEREAS:

Organizations like Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association seek to support the development of new drugs to treat CMT, improve the quality of life for people with CMT, and, ultimately, find a cure; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim September 2016 as CHARCOT-MARIE-TOOTH AWARENESS MONTH in Georgia.
