BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION GASTROSCHISIS AWARENESS DAY
WHEREAS:
There are 1 in 2,229 individuals born with gastroschisis in the United States, and roughly the same number born in Georgia annually; and
WHEREAS:
Many Americans living with gastroschisis have serious and debilitating conditions that have a significant impact on the lives of those affected, including but not limited to failure to thrive or slow growth, short bowel syndrome, multiple organ transplants, and longterm feeding issues; and
WHEREAS:
The cause of gastroschisis is relatively unknown. As such, patients and their families generally must bear a large share of the burden for many things, including raising funds for research; and
WHEREAS:
Organizations like the Avery's Angels Gastroschisis Foundation will join in celebrating a nationwide observance of Gastroschisis Awareness Day on july 30, 2015; now
THEREFORE:
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim july 30, 2016, as GASTROSCHISIS AWARENESS DAY in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 9th day of May in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
