BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION

GEORGIA VOLUNTEER HEALTH CARE DAY

WHEREAS:

A sense of caring and a desire to share have motivated hundreds of Georgians to volunteer their time and services to the needs of others in their communities by helping provide quality health and dental care to lowincome , uninsured residents; and

WHEREAS :

Volunteers are increasingly recognized as an important partner with government, and experience teaches us that government alone cannot solve all of our state's health care problems; and

WHEREAS:

Over the last ten years, more than 1,000,000 patient visits have been provided by more than 5,400 licensed providers with an estimated value of $200 ,000 ,000 in volunteer services through over 100 clinics to the uninsured residents in the State of Georgia since 2006; and

WHEREAS :

The Georgia Department of Public Health, through its Georgia Volunteer Health Care Program , offers Georgians the opportunity to participate in the life of their communities and to link their talents and resources to address the major issue of health care access. The program is celebrating its 10 year anniversary on August 25, 2016, the statewide Volunteer Health Care Day; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim August 25 , 2016, as GEORGIA VOLUNTEER HEALTH CARE DAY in Georgia and urge all citizens to give of themselves and volunteer for better health for all.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 20th day of July in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen .
