A PROCLAMATION

MEDICAL MALPRACTICE AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS: WHEREAS:

The State of Georgia is devoted to fostering the health and wellbeing of its citizens and engaging in a conscientious commitment to preventing the occurrence of medical malpractice; and
The widespread occurrence of medical malpractice necessitates an effort to increase communication, education, and action to prevent harm, injury or death to those receiving medical treatment; and

The journal of Patient Safety estimates that between 21 0,000-440,000 Americans die due to medical error each year. Medical errors are the No. 3 cause of the death in the U.S.; and
Medical Malpractice Awareness Month provides an opportunity to focus on healing, to reach out to help permanent caretakers of those affected by medical error, and to speak on the accountability and oversight measures that ensure patient safety; and
Organizations like the National Medical Malpractice Advocacy Association are committed to standing for those unable to stand for themselves to encourage the spirit of intentional healing and providing support to those trying to regain footing after suffering from medical error; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim july 2016 as MEDICAL MALPRACTICE AWARENESS MONTH in Georgia.
