A proclamation: Pollinator Week [May 4, 2016]

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION

POLLINATOR WEEK

WHEREAS:

Pollinators such as birds and insects are an important component to the pollination and fertilization process. They are essential partners of the farmers and ranchers that produce much of our food supply; and

WHEREAS:

Pollination plays a vital role in the health of our state and national forests and grasslands, which provide fish, wildlife, timber, water, mineral resources, and recreational opportunities as well as enhanced economic development opportunities for communities; and

WHEREAS:

Pollinator species provide significant environmental benefits that are necessary for maintaining healthy, diverse ecosystems; and

WHEREAS:

The State of Georgia has benefited from and managed wildlife habitats and public lands such as state forests and grasslands for decades; and

WHEREAS:

Our state also provides producers with conservation assistance to promote wise environmental stewardship, including the protection and maintenance of pollinators and their habitats on working lands and wildlands; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim june 20-26, 2016, as POLLINATOR WEEK in Georgia.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 4th day of May in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
