DAY OF THE COWBOY
Pioneering men and women, recognized as "cowboys," helped establish Georgia and the American West; and
The cowboy spirit continues to infuse this country with character and good sense as the cowboy embodies honesty, integrity, courage, compassion, respect, patriotism, and a strong work ethic; and
The cowboy loves, lives off, and depends upon the land and is an excellent steward, dedicated to protecting and enhancing the environment; and
The cowboy is an American icon and continues to play a significant role in Georgia's culture and economy. Membership in rodeo and other organizations surrounding the work of the cowboy transcends ethnicity, gender, and age; and
To recognize the cowboy is to acknowledge America's ongoing commitment to an esteemed and enduring code of conduct. The contributions made by cowboys and cowgirls to their communities should be celebrated and encouraged; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim October 8, 2016, as the DAY OF THE COWBOY in Georgia and thank all the cowboys and cowgirls for their role in establishing and preserving this nation.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 17th day of May in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
