A PROCLAMATION CHIARI MALFORMATION
AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE:

Chiari Malformation, often referred to as CM, is a condition in which the lower portion of the brain (the cerebellar tonsils) descends into the upper cervical (neck) region; and
The condition can result in a wide variety of symptoms such as coordination problems, muscle weakness, vision and swallowing difficulties, and/or severe headaches; and
The need for widespread awareness and understanding for Chiari is critical for meaningful research to continue so that the quality of lives is improved and a cure can be found; and
Many organizations, such as Conquer Chiari and the Georgia chapter of The American Syringomyelia & Chiari Alliance Project, Inc., celebrate September as the official month for Chiari Awareness and strive to provide support, fund research, and educate the public on the devastating condition; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim September 2016 as CHIARI MALFORMATION AWARENESS MONTH in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 16th day of May in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
