A PROCLAMATION

WOMEN'S LUNG HEALTH WEEK

WHEREAS: THEREFORE:

Every five minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with lung cancer. Lung cancer is the No. 1 cancer killer of women in the nation; and
The death rate for lung cancer in women has almost doubled throughout the past 37 years; and
In Georgia alone, an estimated 6,000 men and women will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year; and
Advocacy and increased awareness will result in a deeper understanding of the causes of lung cancer, earlier detection for those afflicted, and better treatment for women with lung cancer and other lung diseases, ultimately saving lives; and
LUNG FORCE, an initiative led by the American Lung Association, encourages women to stand together with a collective strength to lead the fight against lung cancer and to promote lung health; and
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 8-14, 2016 as WOMEN'S LUNG HEALTH WEEK in Georgia and encourage all Georgia citizens to learn more about the detection and treatment of lung cancer.
