A PROCLAMATION

FAIR HOUSING AND EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY MONTH

WHEREAS:

The Georgia Fair Housing Law protects all individuals from discrimination in any aspect relating to the sale, rental , or in the provision of brokerage services or brokerage facilities in connection therewith, because of an individual's race, color, religion, sex, disability or handicap, familial status or national origin; and
The Georgia Fair Employment Practices Act safeguards all individuals in public employment from discrimination in employment and promotes the elimination of discrimination against all public employees due to race, color, religion, national origin , sex, disability or age; and
The Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity - the State of Georgia's Civil Rights Department - has been vested with the authority and responsibility for the enforcement of these civil rights statutes; and
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development recognizes April as National Fair Housing Month, providing an opportunity to highlight the importance of fair housing laws nationwide; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim April 2016 as FAIR HOUSING AND EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY MONTH throughout Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 17th day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
