A PROCLAMATION
GEORGIA STEM DAY
WHEREAS:
Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education is fundamental in the success of our future workforce and has become a vital aspect of our state's future economic competitiveness and growth. TAG Education Collaborative, community partners, and K-1 2 schools throughout the state will join together to celebrate STEM and recognize its benefits to our students; and
WHEREAS: WHEREAS:
Georgia is a national leader in five industries: health IT, information security, communication services, financial technology, and logistics. These clusters combined generate more than $80 billion in annual revenue for our state; and
By the year 2018, nearly 211 ,000 technology jobs are projected to exist in our state. Fostering student interest in STEM careers will maintain Georgia's leadership position in technology and innovation; and
WHEREAS:
Students, teachers, companies, and universities will participate in STEM activities such as sessions featuring industry speakers, hands-on classroom projects, field trips, and more that will engage and excite students about STEM learning; now
THEREFORE:
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 6, 2016, as GEORGIA STEM DAY in Georgia and encourage our citizens to celebrate STEM education in order to engage our youth and sustain our position as a leader in technology.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 8th day of March in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
