A proclamation: Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month, Mar. 23, 2016

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION

PARKINSON'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS:

Parkinson's disease is a chronic, progressive disorder of the central nervous system affecting more than 1.5 million people in the United States; and

. WHEREAS:

Symptoms of Parkinson's disease vary from case to case but can include tremors, slowness of movement and rigidity, difficulty with balance and speaking, cognitive impairment and dementia, mood disorders; and sleep difficulties; and

WHEREAS:

Many organizations throughout the United States provide support for those with this disease through research, patient and family services, education and sponsorship of local chapters, information and referral centers, and support groups; and

WHEREAS:

The State of Georgia.observes Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month in April, providing an opportunity to increase awareness of this illness and focus on efforts for finding a cure; and

WHEREAS:

The State of Georgia recognizes the efforts of all Georgians who raise funds and promote awareness to fight Parkinson's disease, thereby improving the quality of life for those living with this disorder; and

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim April 2015 as PARKINSON'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH in Georgia.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 23rd day of March in the year of our Lord two thousand fifteen.
