BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION GEORGIA HEART MONTH

WHEREAS:

Heart disease is the number 1 killer of Georgians with approximately 22,000 lives lost to major cardiovascular disease in 2014. Georgia ranked 11th in the nation in the highest number of heart disease deaths in that same year; and
In 2014 there were more than 27,000 heart attacks occurring in Georgia in and approximately 10,000 out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests with a survival rate of less than 10 percent; and
Keeping Georgians healthy and promoting awareness of health issues, including heart disease, is an important responsibility and relies on the actions of many organizations and groups in our state; and
Organizations like the Better Outcomes Foundation, Inc. are working to improve the survival rate for out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest; and
Maintaining a strong heart is key to a long and healthy life. Our state is committed to improving the health of our citizens, offering assistance and opportunities to achieve a greater level of overall health; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim February 2016, as GEORGIA HEART MONTH.
