A proclamation: Adult Learn To Swim Month, Feb. 29, 2016

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION
ADULT LEARN TO SWIM MONTH

WHEREAS:

The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 37 percent of American adults could not save themselves if they fell into water over their heads. The inability to swim may have grave implications on people of all ages; and

WHEREAS:

As many as 10 people drown each day in the United States. Adult drowning may be addressed by initiatives that seek to ensure that all adults can swim; and

WHEREAS:

April is the ideal month for this designation, as pools and other bodies of water open in this month for the spring and summer seasons; and

WHEREAS :

Organizations such as U.S. Masters Swimming work to highlight the lifesaving effort to teach adults to swim. They hold the commendable goal of making water available for fun, fitness and health; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby . proclaim April 2016 as ADULT LEARN TO SWIM MONTH in Georgia.

In w itness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 29th day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
