BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION

HUMAN RIGHTS DAY

WHEREAS:

Recognition of the inherent dignity, and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace in the world. In 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10; and

WHEREAS:

Disregard for human rights have resulted in terrible acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind and have led us to aspire to a world that enjoys freedom of speech and beliefs, peaceful communities , and the ability to freely provide for themselves; and

WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE:

The citizens of Georgia have reaffirmed their faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person and in the equal rights of men and women . We are determined to promote social progress, better standards of life in larger freedom, and to stand up for another's rights to make a real difference every day they can; and
Georgia honors those who have fought for the dignity and worth of others in their communities and throughout the United States, establishing a strong foundation of respect for future generations; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim December 10, 2016 , as HUMAN RIGHTS DAY in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 17th day of November in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
