BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION
CELEBRATING SERVICE WEEK
WHEREAS:
Se rvice to others not only benefits those in need bu t also reaps rich rewards fo r those who give , as the giver receives much in the act of giving; and
WHEREAS:
The U.S. Constitution , through the Sixth Amendment, protects the right of every citizen to be represented by legal counsel. However, the high costs associated with legal representation may provide barriers for those who cannot afford it; and
WHEREAS:
Legal se rvices agencies, the State Bar of Georgia and local bar associations throughout Georgia have enlisted the services of volunteer attorneys to provide valuable legal services to those in need; and
WHEREAS:
Volunteer attorneys donate thousands of hours of pro bono ti me each year , and the invaluable contributions of these attorneys he lp to ensure and protect a just society for every citizen; now
THEREFORE :
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim October 17-21 , 2016 , as CELEBRATING SERVICE WEEK in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 5th of October in the year of ou r Lord two thousand sixteen.
