BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT MONTH

WHEREAS:

Education is the gateway to a brighter future for our children and our state. Georgia is committed to excellence in education and recognizes the importance of family participation in that pursuit of excellence; and

WHEREAS:

Through active partnerships and by working directly with their children's schools and teachers, parents can help build a strong academic foundation for their children. Family engagement in the education process may take place at school or home; and

WHEREAS:

Partnerships are powerful and important to education . Family Engagement Month promotes awareness of the importance of parents and family members working directly with their children's schools and teachers; and

WHEREAS:

Parent Engagement Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of parent engagement in a child's education from Pre-K to 12th grade and beyond; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim November 2016 as FAMILY ENGAGEMENT MONTH in Georgia, with November 17 as PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT DAY, and encourage parents to remain actively involved in the education of their children .

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 18th of October in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
