BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION

CREDIT UNION DAY

WHEREAS:

Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives founded by dedicated people working together towards economic advancement, helping others afford the demands and joys of life by creating access to reliable financial services; and

WHEREAS:

Credit unions call for the pooling of personal resources and leadership abilities for the good of the cooperative, encourage a regular habit of saving so those in need may borrow, teach sound financial literacy, enact responsible lending practices , and foster the desire to repay loans so members may have access to credit when it is needed; and

WHEREAS:

Credit unions have demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout the communities in which they serve since they were founded in the United States more than 100 years ago. Credit unions have implemented the idea that people with middle-class aspirations should have access to a trusted financial partner that operates with their best interest in mind; and

WHEREAS:

Credit unions empower over 2 million members belonging to 146 credit unions in Georgia to improve their economic situations. Credit unions have shown resilience throughout difficult economic times and have developed strong alliances that make financial democracy possible; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim October 20, 2016 , as CREDIT UNION DAY in Georgia.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 14th day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
