BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION

GEORGIA APPLY TO COLLEGE MONTH

WHEREAS:

Some high school students may not pursue college solely as a result of an absence of information and limited support during the application process. Studies repeatedly conclude that a college degree provides significant advantages in terms of income, health, and community involvement to those who attend and graduate. All citizens of Georgia deserve an opportunity to learn and colleges in Georgia provide this opportunity; and

WHEREAS:

The State of Georgia and all of its education agencies work to prepare the next generation for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century. Increasing the number of citizens pursuing a college degree in Georgia, including minorities, students from rural areas, and first-generation students is a significant priority; and

WHEREAS:

November marks Georgia Apply to College Month, a time to help Georgia high school seniors become more aware of college opportunities and to provide a forum for students to apply to college; and

WHEREAS:

Georgia Apply to College Month is sponsored by Communities in Schools of Georgia, the Georgia Department of Education, the Georgia Independent College Association, the Georgia Student Finance Commission, the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, the Technical College System of Georgia, and the University System of Georgia and is endorsed by the Georgia Associationof Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim November 2016 as GEORGIA APPLY TO COLLEGE MONTH.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 11th day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
