A PROCLAMATION UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF GEORGIA DAY AT
THE CAPITOL
WHEREAS:

On March 13, 1968, Chancellor George L. Simpson Jr. recommended that the Board of Regents establish a University System Student Advisory Council. This council was to be composed of all the student body presidents within the University System. Today, the Student Advisory Council represents over 300,000 students attending 30 institutions across the State of Georgia; and
The Board of Regents felt that the formation of the Student Advisory Council would further enhance student government organizations while creating responsible student leadgrship in the l)niversity System; and
The Student Advisory Council provides a platform for communication

between the students of the University System of Georgia and the
Chancellor of the System, Board of Regents, state government, news
media, and the public concerning important issues to the students; and
The University System of Georgia's Student Advisory Council has made significant contributions to college communities throughout Georgia and I am proud to recognize them for their efforts; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia , do hereby proclaim january 25 , 2016, as UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF GEORGIA DAY AT THE CAPITOL in Georgia and thank the Student Advisory Council for their dedication to the betterment of higher education in our state.
