A PROCLAMATION
PLASMA AWARENESS WEEK
Plasma Awareness Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the need for source plasma collection, to recognize the contributions of plasma donors to saving and improving lives, and to increase understanding about lifesaving plasma protein therapies and rare diseases; and
Lifesaving plasma-derived and recombinant blood clotting factors, collectively known as plasma protein therapies, are unique, biologic products for which no substitute therapies exist. These treatments save and improve the lives of individuals throughout the world; and
Plasma protein therapies are used to treat many conditions, including bleeding disorders, primary immunodeficiency diseases, Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, and certain rare neurological disorders. These therapies are also used in emergency and surgical medicine situations; and
Plasma protein therapies have significantly improved the quality of life for those who suffer from such conditions, markedly improved patient outcomes, and extended life expectancy for individuals with rare diseases, specifically those with plasma protein disorders; and
There are eight plasma donation centers in the State of Georgia certified under the International Quality Plasma Program where healthy and committed donors provide plasma that is used to manufacture high-impact, life-saving therapies; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim October 1117, 201 5, as PLASMA AWARENESS WEEK in Georgia.
