BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION
ALCOHOL AND DRUG ADDICTION RECOVERY MONTH
WHEREAS:
Addiction is a chronic, relapsing illness that involves a number of brain disorders where treatment has been scientifically proven to be the most effective intervention for dealing with this ailment. This illness affects Americans of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds and has enormous medical, societal, and economic costs; and
WHEREAS:
Thousands of healthcare providers and other concerned individuals have dedicated their lives to prevention programs, recovery processes, and the education of policymakers and the public about the dangers of substance abuse; and
WHEREAS:
Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month raises awareness for people who are currently attempting to overcome their substance abuse disorders through treatment, in addition to their families, friends, supporters, and treatment providers; now
THEREFORE:
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim September 201 5 as ALCOHOL AND DRUG ADDICITON RECOVERY MONTH in Georgia and encourage all citizens to support those individuals who are in recovery as well as recognize the counseling and program staff who provide them with assistance and motivation along their journey.
