BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION
CULTURE CHANGE DAY
WHEREAS:
"Culture Change" is the name of the national movement dedicated to changing the way we think and feel about aging and disability, improving the quality of life and care for all people who need help taking care of themselves in any place they call home; and
WHEREAS:
The Culture Change movement advocates for creating the kind of care that we all want for our loved ones and ourselves. It is dedicated to transforming the old, institutional philosophies and models of long-term care into one that practices person-centered care and self-directed living. Person-centered values include choice, dignity, respect, privacy, self-determination, and purposeful living; and
WHEREAS :
Person - centered ness is the bond between the person who is receiving the care and the person who is providing the care, including staff and caregivers that are also treated with dignity and respect. Relationships are the key to quality long-term care; and
WHEREAS:
Culture Change transformation requires changes in organizational practices, relationships at all levels and workforce models, and physical environments. It leads to better outcomes for consumers and staff while improving the quality of care and ultimately saving money for providers; and
WHEREAS:
Culture Change puts the person first, honoring the uniqueness of each individual; and
WHEREAS:
The Culture Change Network of Georgia is a group of dedicated supporters and stakeholders working as partners to promote and foster culture change to improve the quality of life for older Georgians in all settings where aging services are delivered. The Eighth Annual Culture Change Network of Georgia Summit will bring innovative leaders together to focus on the theme, "The Art of Aging: Not a Still Life;" now
THEREFORE: I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim August 27, 2015, as CULTURE CHANGE DAY in Georgia.
