A proclamation: Disabled Adults and Children Day, Apr. 30, 2015

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION DISABLED ADULTS AND CHILDREN DAY

WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS:

Nearly 1,204,000 people in the State of Georgia over the age of five have a form of disability. Approximately 230,000, or 2.8 percent of the state's population, experience difficulties with performing activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, or moving around inside their homes; and
These struggles with performing everyday activities are battles which impact not only the disabled but also their loved ones, friends, neighbors, and communities; and
Many of these individuals do not have the financial capabilities to purchase their own medical equipment when insurance does not provide adequate assistance; and

WHEREAS: WHEREAS:

Numerous organizations throughout the state, such as Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC), are dedicated to helping affected individuals and their families by providing durable equipment such as wheelchairs and hospital beds at little to no cost to the disabled and their families. Since 1986, FODAC has collected and distributed more than 29,000 wheelchairs and is the number one recycler of mobile equipment for the disabled; and
It is imperative that we as a state come together to raise awareness for this cause, which will lead to increased knowledge and support for families who have been affected by physical disabilities; now

THEREFORE: I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 2, 201 5, as DISABLED ADULTS AND CHILDREN DAY in Georgia.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 30th day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand fifteen.
