BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION ASIAN AMERICAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER
HERITAGE MONTH
WHEREAS:
During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we celebrate the accomplishments of Asian Americans, native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders and reflect on the many ways they have enriched out state; and
WHEREAS:
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, this community, composed of over 45 distinct ethnicities and over 28 language groups, is one of the fastest growing and most diverse populations in the country; and
WHEREAS:
Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders make up 1.5 million people across the southeast region. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have impacted all facets of life in the Southeast region, including arts and culture, heritage preservation, science, government affairs, business, education, and philanthropy.; and
WHEREAS:
These individuals have helped build, defend, and strengthen our nation through a variety of professions, including farmers, railroad laborers, entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, activists, and government leaders; and
WHEREAS:
During this observance, we celebrate the culture, traditions, and history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States . Georgia is home to many Asian Americans and Pacific Americans whose hard work and love of family and community have been a critical part of the advancement of this state; now
THEREFORE:
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 2015 as ASIAN AMERICAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 3Qth day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand fifteen.
