A PROCLAMATION
FOOD DRIVE DAY
WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS:
An estimated 30 million people, including 12 million children, go hungry every day in America. This fact was recognized by the National Association of Letter Carriers and the United States Postal Service and inspired the creation of a national food drive; and
Following a pilot drive in 1992, the first NALC Food Drive was arranged in all 50 states in 1993, resulting in the collection of 11 million pounds of food. In 2010, the drive surpassed the 1 billion mark in total food collected since 1993; and
The 201 5 NALC "Stamp Out Hunger! Food Drive," will take place on May 9, 201 5. Georgians are encouraged to aide in this effort by participating in what is now the world's largest single-day drive by placing non-perishable food items next to their mailboxes on May 9th; and
WHEREAS:
The need for food assistance remains a critical problem in our state and nation. It is our duty as citizens to bring awareness to the ongoing problem of hunger and contribute to this important cause; now
THEREFORE: I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 9, 201 5, as FOOD DRIVE DAY in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 20th day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand fifteen.
