A proclamation: 100th anniversary of the United States Navy Reserve, Mar. 2, 2015

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION 1QQth ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES NAVY RESERVE

WHEREAS : WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE:

Since the birth of our great nation, brave citizens have answered the call to serve in the Armed Forces. In 191 5, Congress officially established the Federal Navy Reserve with the mission to provide str~tegic depth and deliver operational capabilities to our Navy and Marine Corps teams and joint forces during times of both peace and war; and
From a proposition by Thomas Jefferson for a national naval militia in 1805 to one in seven Sailors serving in the Vietnam War, the dedicated men and women of the United States Navy Reserve have played a crucial role in the history and success of our nation; and
Over the last century, Navy Reserve Sailors have participated in every U.S. conflict with more than 300,000 serving in World War I, two million in World War II, 130,000 in the Korean War, 22,000 in the first gulf war, and 1,500 in Bosnia and Kosovo; and
The State of Georgia has over 3,000 Navy Reserve Sailors serving in Navy Operational Support Centers in Augusta, Columbus, and Marietta. I count these individuals amongst our state and nation's most honorable citizens, and Georgia is grateful to them for their service; and
Navy Reserve Sailors are patriots who balance the demands of family, community, and civilian employment with military preparedness. The freedoms and liberties we are blessed to enjoy are a direct result of the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of our men and women in uniform, and Georgia is dedicated to honoring them and their commitment to the United States; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim March 3, 201 5, as the celebration of the 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES NAVY in Georgia and encourage all citizens to recognize the valuable contributions of Navy Reserve Sailors.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 2nd day of March in the year of our Lord two thousand fifteen.
