BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION ENDOMETRIOSIS AWARENESS MONTH
WHEREAS:
Endometriosis is a disease in which endometrial tissue releases within the abdominal cavity often causing significant damage to the reproductive system. The tissue can also attach and damage other vital organs in the body; and
WHEREAS:
Endometriosis is one of the most common diseases among females, affecting 200 million women worldwide. As such, endometriosis is an urgent women's health crisis that demands support from all levels of government; and
WHEREAS:
The average diagnosis takes at least seven years due to lack of education and awareness even within in the medical community. Additionally, the economic impact of patients with endometriosis amounts to almost $119 billion annually, a staggering cost for those living with this disease and their loved ones; and
WHEREAS:
It is imperative that we increase awareness and education of endometriosis so diagnosis and treatment can begin at the earliest stage possible, minimizing the devastating effects endometriosis can have on those living with this disease; now
THEREFORE:
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim March 201 5, as ENDOMETRIOSIS AWARENESS MONTH in Georgia and encourage all citizens to increase their knowledge of this important health issue.
