BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA I' A PROCLAMATION

RADON ACTION MONTH

WHEREAS: .

Radon is a colorless, odorless, naturally occurring radio~ctive gas that threatens the health of all the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS:

The U.S. Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States . It is the number one cause among non-smokers; and

WHEREAS:

One in 1 5 homes across the United States has an elevated radon level. Any home in Georgia may have an elevated level of radon,
even if other homes in the same neighborhood do not; and

WHEREAS:

Testing for radon is simple and inexpensive, and identified radon problems can be fixed; and

WHEREAS:

The University of Georgia's College of Family and Consumer Sciences, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, and the U.S . Environmental Protection Agency are supporting efforts to encourage Georgians to test their homes for elevated levels of radon and to build new homes with radon-resistant materials and features; now

THEREFORE :

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim January 2016 as RADON ACTION MONTH in Georgia.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 17th day of December in the year of our Lord two thousand fifteen.
