The health of Georgia's citizens is the foundation for a productive state. Our future well-being rests within our ability to adequately treat, and ultimately find cures for, individuals who are afflicted with a variety of illnesses, including Pulmonary Hypertension (PH); and
PH is a rare disorder causing intolerable blood pressure levels in the arteries between the lungs and heart, and there are at least as many undiagnosed patients as diagnosed patients; and
Without treatment, PH patients live an average of less than 3 years past diagnosis; but with early diagnosis and effective treatment, PH can be managed for more than twenty years; and
Education, early diagnosis, and research funding can assist in finding a cure for PH; and
Non-profit organizations like the Pulmonary Hypertension Association seeks ways to prevent and cure PH and to provide hope for the PH community through support, education, advocacy, and awareness; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim November 201 5 as PULMONARY HYPERTENSION AWARENESS MONTH in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 22nd day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand fifteen.
