PHYSICAL THERAPY DAY
The State of Georgia encourages options for an active and healthy lifestyle. Organizations like the Georgia Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association aid in this effort through its commitment to improving the quality of life by advancing physical therapy practices, education, research, and by increasing awareness of the physical therapist's role in Georgia's health services delivery system; and
These organizations encourage those who have suffered an injury or developmental condition by recommending physical therapy by a licensed physical therapist to maximize physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle; and
Physical therapists in Georgia are held to a high educational standard by earning a doctor of physical therapy degree, acquiring state licensure, and maintaining competency to provide examination of and treatment for conditions limiting movement and functional activity as well as preventing the loss of mobility before it occurs; and
Physical therapist assistants complete an associate's degree and are licensed to provide selected physical therapy treatment under the direction and supervision of physical therapists; and
The more than 2,000 members of the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia provide our citizens with expert neuromusculoskeletal examination and treatment, improving health, fitness, wellness, and mobility across a patient's lifespan. It is estimated that more than 496,000 Georgians require the care of a physical therapist each year; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim january 21, 201 5, as PHYSICAL THERAPY DAY in Georgia to increase awareness of the importance of physical therapy and physical therapists in our state.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 16th day of january in the year of our Lord two thousand fifteen.
