By the Governor of the State of Georgia, a proclamation, 2014 April 9; By the Governor of the State of Georgia, a proclamation: March of Remembrance

I .

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION

MARCH OF REMEMBRANCE

WHEREAS:

The Holocaust was the state-sponsored, systematic persecution and annihilation of Europe's Jewish population by Nazi Germany and its collaborators between 1933 and 1945. Six million individuals were murdered with Jews being the primary victims. Also targeted were Poles, Romanies, blacks and other ethnic minorities, homosexuals, and the handicapped; and

WHEREAS:

The March of Remembrance was established to be a simple prayer walk during the time of Holocaust Remembrance to honor, educate, remember, and engage; and

WHEREAS:

The remembrance of the Holocaust offers an opportunity to pray and walk together, providing a platform for Holocaust survivors and their descendants to give public testimony while we still have them; and

WHEREAS:

The March of Remembrance is a day that has been set aside as a clear statement against all forms of oppression, but specifically antiSemitism, and because it is a powerful symbol of what happens when people remain silent about indifference and prejudice; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 4, 2014, as MARCH OF REMEMBRANCE in Georgia and urge all citizens to honor the survivors and the memories of victims of the Holocaust.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 9th day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen.

ATTEST
