BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION ROSIE THE RIVETER DAY

WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS:
WHEREAS: THEREFORE:

Georgia has always recognized the historical importance of working women, including volunteer women, during World War II. It is right and proper to preserve their history and legacy; and
The working women of World War II and their descendants wish to further the advancement of patriotic ideas, excellence in the work place, and loyalty to the United States of America; and
During World War II, 16 million women left their homes to work or volunteer in factories, farms, shipyards, airplane factories, banks, and other institutions in support of the U.S. military overseas. These women also worked with the USO and Red Cross, drove trucks, riveted airplane parts, collected critical materials, rolled bandages, and served on rationing boards; and
Georgia is proud to observe Rosie the Riveter Day, a collective national effort to call attention to these women who went to work for the war effort during World War II; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 24, 2014, as ROSIE THE RIVETER DAY in Georgia and encourage my fellow Georgians to recognize these women for their contributions to our nation during a time of war.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 8th day of April in the year of our Lord two thou sand fourteen.
