A PROCLAMATION
COUNTY CLERKS WEEK
County clerks are vital to the operation of local governments and are the oldest positions in local government, dating back to early civilization; and
The county clerk's office provides the professional link between citizens with their local governing bodies and agencies of government at other levels; and
Georgia's 159 county clerks perform a variety of tasks, including serving as executive assistant to the governing authority, recording official actions, serving as the official record-keepers, conducting elections, collecting revenue, overseeing voter registration and representation of the Board of Commissioners; and
County clerks strive to improve local government administration through participation in educational programs, seminars, workshops and annual conferences; and
We salute Georgia's county clerks for their dedication to providing quality and exemplary services to their communities; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim the May 4 - May 10, 2014, as COUNTY CLERKS WEEK in Georgia and salute these individuals for their service to the state.
