BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION FIX A LEAK WEEK

WHEREAS:

Water is a vital natural resource that provides for the most basic needs of our citizens. It is also essential to our state's economy. Because Georgia's rainfall fluctuates from year to year, water conservation efforts are especially imperative; and

WHEREAS:

The Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority is sponsoring its 14th year
of the waterSmart program in an effort to maintain and encourage the
continuation of efficient water conservation practices in metro Atlanta. The Cobb County Water System has also partnered with the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority to further spread this message; and

WHEREAS:

The waterSmart and WaterSense programs teach residents and
homeowners about conservation practices by providing informative tips
on saving water, retrofitting homes, and waterSmart landscaping.
These programs are educating Georgians about conserving water by finding and fixing in-home leaks, which can add up to thousands of gallons of water each year; and

WHEREAS:

Each citizen plays a pivotal role in protecting the water supply of our state for future generations, and it is essential for Georgians to adopt water conservation practices to continuously reduce water consumption; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim March 17-23, 2014, as FIX A LEAK WEEK in Georgia.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 4th day of March in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen.
