BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA
A PROCLAMATION
NURSE APPRECIATION WEEK
WHEREAS:
More than 111 ,800 registered nurses in Georgia comprise our state's largest health care profession, emphasizing primary and preventative health care to millions of people annually; and
WHEREAS:
Georgia's registered nurses strive to meet the emerging health care needs of our state which vary in a wide range of settings including hospitals, clinics, prisons and jails, doctor's offices, nursing homes, and private agencies; and
WHEREAS:
Registered nurses provide safe, quality, and cost-effective healthcare, demonstrating professionalism and compassion for patients daily while continuously striving to upgrade standards of practice and improve service; and
WHEREAS:
The demand for registered nurses will increase due to the aging population in the prison system. Nurses working in the prison system are committed to providing prisoners receiving healthcare with dignity, respect, and professional expertise; and
WHEREAS:
Nurses working in correctional settings provide care to individuals at increased risk of infectious diseases, mental health disorders, chronic medical conditions, and acute or emergent problems requiring immediate intervention; now
THEREFORE:
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 612, 2014, as NURSE APPRECIATION WEEK in Georgia and encourage our citizens to express their appreciation for the valuable services Georgia nurses perform daily in service to their fellow man.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 20th day of March in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen.
