A PROCLAMATION
MASTER GARDENER DAY
The Georgia Master Gardener Volunteer Program is an educational program offered through county offices of the Georgia Cooperative Extension Service. Through this program, individuals are trained and certified in horticulture and related areas; and
The Master Gardener Program is designed to develop highly-skilled volunteers who will commit to a minimum of 50 hours of service in exchange for 40 hours of horticultural training. Through the Master Gardener program, thousands of people in the United States have been trained as volunteers; and
These individuals, in turn, volunteer their expertise and services under the direction of their County Extension Agent to help others through horticultural projects that benefit the community. This group of dedicated gardeners is probably the largest all volunteer group that works with and benefits the Extension Service throughout our state; and
Master Gardeners bring the latest horticultural information and practices from the world of research to their communities' landscapes and gardens; and
Master Gardeners have helped Georgians improve their quality of life and the environment. This year marks the 35th year of this program in Georgia, and we are thankful for all that they do for our state; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim March 15, 2014, as MASTER GARDENER DAY in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 5th day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen.
