By the Governor of the State of Georgia, a proclamation, 2014 February 28D; By the Governor of the State of Georgia, a proclamation: Safe Digging Month

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION SAFE DIGGING MONTH

WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS:
WHEREAS: THEREFORE:

Each year in Georgia, lives are endangered, money and time are wasted, and property is destroyed because people fail to follow safe digging practices as prescribed by the national Safe Digging campaign; and,
Georgia piloted the national Safe Digging campaign, and the state's one call center continues to motivate statewide excavators with this message: Know What's Below, Call Before You Dig; and,
Georgia 811 - the Utilities Protection Center - provides a toll-free telephone number, 1-800-282-7411, and accepts calls from the national, federally mandated "Call Before You Dig" Number, 811, to help reduce damages to underground facilities, thereby reducing the loss of time and money to contractors, utilities, and taxpayers; and
This "one call" system, which is free to the contractor as well as the homeowner, also helps diggers comply with the safety rules and regulations of the construction industry; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim April 2014 as SAFE DIGGING MONTH in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 28th day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen.
