BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION DISABILITY AWARENESS DAY

WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: THEREFORE:

It is important that individuals with disabilities have opportunities to live productive and meaningful lives with employment, a place to call home in the most integrated setting possible, and an engaged community of family and friends; and
Individuals with disabilities should have influence over their day, including where they live, which jobs they perform, and which educational and leisure activities they pursue; and
The State of Georgia continues to make progress in addressing the needs of those with disabilities as they transition from state facilities to communities. Providing support and encouragement, we can improve the lives of our fellow Georgians who face adversity because of mental or physical disabilities; and
Individuals with disabilities, family members, advocates, providers, and their allies annually gather at the Capitol to bring awareness to this cause and to tell their I am Olmstead stories; and
All persons with disabilities should have the opportunity to live and work with dignity, freedom, and self-sufficiency as productive citizens. The State of Georgia strives to ensure that individuals with disabilities can participate fully in the workplace and that all aspects of community life are accessible to and usable by citizens with disabilities; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim February 20, 2014, as DISABILITY AWARENESS DAY in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 19th day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen.
