A PROCLAMATION

WORLD AIDS DAY
AIDS and HIV have a global impact, with an estimated 35.3 million people living with HIV or AIDS and 1.6 million who have died worldwide in 2012; and
Georgia is ranked sixth highest in the nation for its cumulative reported number of AIDS cases through December 2010. AIDS and HIV continue to be a health concern and priority for the State of Georgia, with 4,281 new cumulative diagnoses of HIV infection and AIDS cases in Georgia as of December 2012,
bringing the total number of persons living with HIVI AIDS in our state to 50,436;
and
The joint United Nations Programme on HIVI AIDS (UNAIDS) has designated an
independent organization, World AIDS Campaign, to oversee and unite each global effort on December first of each year; and
Recognizing that continued commitments to combat HIV and AIDS are needed from all sectors of our society, including families, communities, organizations, government, and policy makers, the World AIDS Campaign theme for World AIDS Day 2014, "Focus, Partner, Achieve: An AIDS-free Generation," aims to reduce new infections by strengthening prevention and education, reduce discrimination, and reduce AIDS-related deaths; and
World AIDS Day 2014 provides an opportunity to highlight Georgia's continued efforts in the delivery of quality HIV and AIDS related prevention, care, treatment, and research; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim December 1, 2014, as WORLD AIDS DAY in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 1st day of December in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen.
